Archival Boundaries: An interactive archiving workshop

| Room: Community Room Why do archiving practices matter for communities like Lopez, and what role can they play in passing knowledge between generations and places? Archives are increasingly under threat, yet they remain powerful tools for protecting what matters. This interactive workshop, facilitated by Clara Ewert and Breton Carter, archivists who both grew up on Lopez, moves from theory to community practice.
Open to everyone, the workshop is designed for those interested in starting a personal archive, learning about the archiving process, or getting involved with local archival projects like those at
the Lopez Island Museum.
A Coastal Living Libraries Initiative by Glory of the Seas Foundation in partnership with Maritime Washington.

Amir Akram calls upon works created by notable orators, poets, musicians, and wordsmiths from the African diaspora to create an album that embodies the process of intentional regressive shadow work in order to be "reborn" into a figure capable of contributing to revolution that serves the people.
The music pulls from a multitude of genres including hip-hop, blues, punk and folk.

Animation Workshop and Lecture: Yarely Torres Reynoso

| Room: Community Room Yarely Torres Reynoso, Artist in Residence, will conduct a workshop and lecture/demonstration at the Community Meeting room on Saturday August 29th from 2-4pm.
Suitable for all ages (with small motor control) the workshop will introduce Yarelyâs work presenting their past animated short films, exploring a brief history of western animation, and sharing the ability to animate as an accessible craft with the community. They encourage anyone from any, or no, arts background to participate in traditional 2D graphite and paper animation that they will be able to take home. In a side-by-side style lecture, people of all ages will be encouraged to share their memories and relationship to animation while following along to flip-book and stop-motion style teachings.
Yarely Torres Reynoso is a Mexican-American traditional and experimental animator from the Pacific Northwest. They practiced visual arts and media production at The Evergreen State College, where they created their first few animated short films.

Working with mixed media and traditional animation techniques, Torres Reynoso explores memory, identity, nostalgia, and the ways our sense of self shifts over time. Blending imagery, texture, repetition, and sound, "The World Swallows Whole" invites viewers into a moving collage of familiar yet altered spaces and asks us to reflect on the memories that shape who we understand ourselves to be.
The screening will be accompanied by a conversation with the artist about the film and their creative process.
